We Are:
The Southeastern Massachusetts Library
System (SEMLS) is a multi-type regional
library system providing service to academic,
public, school and special libraries in 86
communities in southeastern Massachusetts.
The primary role of SEMLS is improve library
services to residents of southeastern Massachusetts
through support of the libraries in our area.
SEMLS provides an array of services to members
including delivery of materials between libraries,
continuing education and training for library
staff, advisory services for libraries, access
to electronic databases, interlibrary loan,
and reference and research services.
SEMLS is a not-for-profit (501C) corporation.
It is governed by an Executive Board elected
by the Council of Members, who represent member
libraries. Each year, the Council of
Members approve a Plan of Service and Budget
which is sent to the Massachusetts Board of
Library Commissioners for approval.
SEMLS services are provided through state
funds administered by the Massachusetts Board
of Library Commissioners.
