Matchbook website

Matchbook.org

This is the website I mentioned at this morning's SEMLS roundtable. You can search by discipline (e.g. music, dance, literature), state, fee range, etc. It's a good resource when you're looking for performers.

Cancer Project cooking classes

Cancer Project / Nutrition Cooking Classes for Cancer Patients

This is the Cancer Project section about their nutrition and cooking classes. I will check with Rose Lee, the Cancer Project trainer who is doing the classes in Quincy, to see if I can give out her direct contact info. Despite the emphasis on cooking for cancer survivors, these classes have general appeal to people interested in healthy cooking and eating.

Civil War Series

We at Norton are nearing the end of a successful 4-week series on the Civil War. We're calling it March into The March in March. First week was an overview of the war by a Wheaton College professor (free). On the second week, 2 patrons showed their Civil War collections of artillery and tokens (also free). This week we enjoyed Carole Julius (Carver's director) and her husband dressed in period costume talking about their roles as Civil War reenactors(free as well!). The last week will be a discussion of E.L. Doctorow's The March, led by Dr. Gary Hylander of Stonehill. We do have to pay Gary. Walgreens supplied the refreshments and gave us all kinds of goodies to take home. Our collector of tokens is a pharmacist at Walgreens and he offered the food. The press on this series prompted a patron to offer a free presentation next month. He is a reenactor in the 5th Regiment of Foot...a British soldier in the American Revolution.

Slide show-lecture

Has anyone had Michael Tougias present at their library? He has several slide show/lecture programs on a variety of topics that look pretty interesting. My community responded very well to a slide lecture presented last fall by Boston by Foot and I would like to schedule more of this type of program. Any other suggestions?

Pirates

Has anyone had a program called Pirates of the New England Coast by David Jennings? Is it appropriate for an adult audience?
