A patron asked if we could offer the prepme.com test preparation product through our library website. She is looking for a free, SAT test preparation online tool that will help her high schooler. I'm not familiar with prepme.com. Had anyone heard of or used prepme.com and their offer of allowing libraries to subscribe for free until June 2009?

Dear Gayle, Great question. In a quick search I found a couple of articles about preptest.com in the Gale databases. Sounds like a perfectly fine company, and I'm interested in knowing that they are offering their services free to libraries right now. I'll see if I can track down a library who is actually using their product.
Looks like Britannica is now partnering with them. "College-bound high school students looking ahead to the SAT and ACT exams can now get first-rate test preparation without stepping into a classroom, with Britannica TestPrep (www.britannicatestprep.com/), an advanced online service from Encyclopaedia Britannica and the innovators at PrepMe.com. More on PrepMe -- It operates on two levels. It is free for anyone who simply wishes to take a practice test for the PSAT, SAT, ACT.
However, the website offers much more for subscribers, notably diagnostics to determine a student's special preparation needs. The entire state of Maine is enrolled, so that Maine residents can login directly from their local library's website.
In our Southeastern area, the town of Dartmouth, MA has subscribed to the service on behalf of the community. On their Home Page, http://dartmouthpubliclibraries.org
Find the TEENS link. Click on PrepMe SAT Help.
If you click on the login link, you will find more info about the programs offered.
PrepMe does not offer sample tests or test prep for advanced tests such as GRE, LSAT, etc.
