Duties/Description:
The Sharon Public Library is looking for
an upbeat, cheerful and flexible person to
fill the position of library assistant. This
is a full-time, 37.5 hour per week position
including Thursday evenings and every other
Saturday. The job offers full benefits.
The library assistant will staff both the
adult and children's circulation desks. Duties
include: checking materials in and out; assisting
patrons in the use of the library facilities;
answering and directing telephone calls; assisting
patrons in registering for library cards;
assisting patrons with issues they may have
with their library account; processing overdue
notices; collecting fines; other tasks of
a similar nature as necessary.
In addition, library assistants are encouraged
to contribute any talents, skills, or interests
they may have in fulfilling the library's
mission.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree or a combination of coursework
and experience equivalent to a two-year degree,
a bachelor's degree being preferred; experience
working with the general public in a customer
service oriented setting. Prior library experience
is desireable. Basic computer skills. Ability
to work as part of a team.
Salary: $18.42 to $21.79

Duties/Description:
Sandwich, MA, a Cape Cod community of 23,000,
seeks a library director who will exercise
overall administrative and operational management
of the Sandwich Public Library and Archives.
Oversee a highly dedicated and competent
library staff and volunteers, maintain high
levels of service excellence, and ensure compliance
to MBLC standards and state certification
requirements.
Manage the preparation, oversight and reporting
of a budget that relies on public, private,
and philanthropic funding.
Collaborate with diverse library, school,

Manage all aspects of technology-related
library functions, both internal and consortium

to make the Sandwich Public Library a vital,
relevant and exciting place to learn and grow.
Qualifications:
The qualified candidate must have an MLS
from an ALA accredited program and a minimum
of five years of increasing supervisory and
administrative responsibility. The candidate
should demonstrate a track record and enthusiasm
for fund raising and grant writing, hands-on
knowledge of library best practices and technologies,
and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal
skills, plus acumen for engaging with town
and community leaders.
Salary Range:
$65,000 - $80,000

Archival Consultant, Town of Hingham
MASTER PLANNING FOR THE TOWN OF HINGHAM,
MA HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS
The following is a temporary archival consulting
opportunity with the Town of Hingham, MA:
Pursuant to the General Laws of the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts, including without limitation,
M.G.L c. 30B, the Town of Hingham (the "Town")
seeks proposals from qualified consultants
to produce a comprehensive master plan for
the historical collections held by the Town
of Hingham's participating departments and
agencies. The participating departments and
agencies are:
The Hingham Historical Society (HHS), the
Hingham Public Library (HPL), the Town Clerk's
Office (TCO), the Hingham School Department
(HSD), and the Hingham Historical Commission
(HHC). The project scope shall include the
production of a prioritized, multi-year master
plan for the cataloging and preservation of
the historical manuscripts, monographs and
photographic collections held by the Project's
participating institutions. The master plan
solicited through this RFP will guide the
participants' decisions relative to making
such documents accessible to the public by
creating appropriate finding aids, addressing
preservation problems, and taking measures
to improve preservation storage conditions.
As a prelude to the master planning work,
each participating institution has undertaken
a qualified Preservation Survey. The Preservation
Surveys provide specific recommendations for
the preservation/conservation of collections
and the maintenance of appropriate physical
environments to support the survival of the
collections over time. These studies will
be furnished to the successful proposer upon
or shortly after engagement, and the Preservation
Surveys' findings dated February 2 through
5, 2009 must be integrated with a Final Report
[the Master Plan.]
Specific tasks involved in preparing a Final
Report may include but should not be limited
to the following: identifying and describing
the collections held, recommending archival
cataloging and/or finding aid systems for
the records of each collection; preparing
budget estimates for each phase of work for
each participating institution.
A Final Report [the Master Plan] to be presented
to the Town shall be prepared fully describing
the work accomplished at each institution.
In all cases, this description shall include
recommendations and budget estimates for on-going
creation of access to and preservation of
each institution's archival/historical collections
by the staff of each institution. The Master
Plan must include an appendix listing relevant
potential governmental and non-governmental
funding assistance for undertaking the work
described in the Final Report. Available funding
and the Master Plan findings will guide future
phases of work by the respective participants.

library director with proven abilities and
a strong dedication to administer and manage
the functions, activities and operations of
the library. The town of Walpole is in the
process of building a new 32,000 square foot
library with a target date opening in 2012.
Walpole is 17 miles south of Boston with a
population of 24,265.
Qualifications: A master’s
degree in library science from an ALA accredited

responsible administrative library experience
including a minimum of three years supervisory
