The Town of Wareham has an opening for a
library director to administer, supervise,
and direct all activities of library services
and other related work as required. Plans
and supervises the operation of the library
programs and procedures, oversees and monitors
staffing, assigns personnel and develops work
schedules, maintains personnel records, and
conducts in-house training of librarians,
support staff and volunteers. Prepares and
monitors library budget, oversees payroll
and payment of bills, and prepares special
grants for library funding. Performs functions
associated with a public library as required
or as the situation dictates, including filling
in as reference librarian or at the circulation
desk.
Master's degree in library science from an
ALA accredited library school; five years
of progressively responsible experience in
library administration; state certification
by the Mass. Board of Library Commissioners,
or any equivalent combination of education
and experience.

Library
Director, Provincetown Public Library
The Town of Provincetown serves a diverse
rural/urban community seasonally ranging in
population from 3,200 to 40,000+ and a staff
of 11 (5.7 FTE.) The Library Trustees are
committed to providing excellent customer
service and expanding collections and programming
in a Web 2.0 interactive, digital environment.
The library, established in 1873, recently
moved to a renovated 1860 National Historic
Property which is still undergoing exterior
renovations and looks forward to future interior
expansion.
The Library Trustees' vision is one of a
public library that is a model in terms of
representing its community both in traditional
library services and in cultural storytelling.
As such, the library is also part museum and
cultural institution. The library has been
a leader in digitizing local historical collections,
showcasing an important art collection, preserving
locally important paper repositories, collecting
and recording oral histories, celebrating
these histories on film and highlighting important
historical collections including the 66-foot,
half-scale model of a Grand Banks fishing
schooner.
Responsibilities: The library
director works under the policy direction
of the Board of Library Trustees, the administrative
direction of the town manager and works closely
with other elected and appointed town officials.
The director oversees and monitors all library
operations, including budgeting, personnel,
programming, fundraising, grant writing and
facilities management. The director conducts,
supervises and evaluates long-range planning,
prepares the budget and related reports, recommends
and implements Board policies, compiles statistics,
plans and performs public relations activities,
represents the library at civic organizations,
participates in the work of professional organizations,
confers with library patrons on matters involving
interpretation of rules, suggestions, complaints
and questions. The director supervises the
development of the library's collection and
directs and approves materials selections
and supervises the preparation of financial
records and manages expenditures.
Qualifications: Masters
degree in library science from an ALA accredited
program, six years of experience in library
administration and supervision. The successful
candidate will have a professional record
documenting vision, creativity, collaborative
and consensus-building skills, excellent written
and oral communication skills, grant writing
and fundraising experience, a commitment to
the development of technology for its potential
to deliver library service and promote the
library, budgetary experience, strong organizational
and planning skills, and experience working
with a diverse community in a fast-paced environment.
Salary: Salary range of
$49,547 to $59,372 with a starting salary,
depending on qualifications, and excellent

Librarian, John Curtis Free Library, Hanover
The John Curtis Free Library in Hanover is
currently accepting applications for a part-time
reference librarian. Under the general direction
of the library director, the reference librarian
maintains the reference collection and provides
reference services for all ages, including
assisting users with electronic and print
resources, Internet and database searching,
and patron and staff instruction.
This is a 20-hour per week position, including
some night and weekend hours. The position
is covered by Personnel By-Law, Class H, with
a current hourly wage of $21.87.
Requirements: ALA accredited
Master's degree in library science required.
