Massachusetts Performers & Programs Directory

Privacy Policy

The Massachusetts Regional Library Systems Performers & Programs Directory is a product of the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Library System (SEMLS), a multi-type library system funded through and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. SEMLS is a non-profit corporation and governed by an Executive Board elected by the Council of Members to represent the Region's member libraries. The directory is provided as a service to the librarians in Massachusetts through a joint effort of the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems.

Use of Information in the Directory

The information collected for the directory is limited to what we believe is necessary or useful to the operation of the directory. SEMLS does not sell any information about the directory’s users. SEMLS does not offer web space to any third parties or advertisers that may independently track users. SEMLS collects the following information for the directory:

Users Searching the Directory – SEMLS does not ask you to submit personal information or verify your identity.

Submitters – SEMLS collects basic contact information on the people submitting performance information to the directory, including name, e-mail address, and institution/company. SEMLS may periodically send e-mails to submitters reminding them to keep directory information current and informing them of any new developments with the directory. SEMLS will not disclose any personal information about submitters without the submitter’s consent unless required by subpoena or court order, with the following exception:

In the case where librarians submit performance information, the librarian’s institution will be displayed on the performer’s record. The librarian’s name and e-mail address will be kept private.

Contact information for submitters will be kept until the submitter’s e-mail address is no longer active.

Performers - SEMLS collects contact information, references, and program information for the performers included in the directory. All of this information is available for public viewing. This information can be submitted by the performer or by a staff member in a library belonging to the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems. A performer can remove any contact information or an entire record from the directory either by logging into the administrative section of the directory or by sending an e-mail to performer@semls.org.

Performer records will remain in the directory until:

1) The performer or submitter deletes the record by logging into the administrative section of the directory or;
2) The e-mail addresses for the performer and for the person who submitted performance information are no longer active.

Web Logs

SEMLS counts the number of viewers of web pages in the directory using standard web server log files. This information is collected in order to improve content and may be used to compile statistical reports. These logs do not include names, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses or other identifying personal information. SEMLS does not try to attempt to identify you or your computer by IP address.

Cookies

SEMLS sets a session cookie when submitters are entering performer and program information. This cookie resides in your computer’s memory and is deleted when the user logs out of the directory, exits the browser, or is inactive for a period of time.

Persistent cookies (cookies stored to the computer’s hard drive) are not used.

Changes

Any changes to the privacy policy will be e-mailed to submitters at least 30 days before the change is to take effect. Changes in this privacy policy will only affect information that is gathered on or after the official date of the change. Privacy of older information will continue to be maintained under the guidelines in effect when the data was gathered.
