Static IP Addresses Available Through Comcast

Many public libraries in the region use a free Internet connection provided by Comcast. This free connection uses a dynamic IP address, which means that the library needs to set a cookie to provide access to databases. Cookie access is never easy as cookies often get lost.

For as little as $5 per month for public libraries, Comcast can add a static IP address to your Internet connection. Once your library has a static IP address, SEMLS can add that IP address to your access for the databases. Your library will no longer need to enter user names and passwords to access the databases on those computers.

An added advantage for libraries using the Comcast connection to support a wireless network is that patrons will also be able to access databases on their laptops and wireless devices while using the library's the WiFi.

If your library sets up a static IP address through Comcast, send the IP address along to SEMLS at helpdesk@semls.org so that we can set your databases up for IP access.
